By the time you finish one pile, another one appears. Be that because you’ve a large family or perhaps a big wardrobe?
Non the less, we’ve decided to review the Tefal GV8461 pro express autoclean steam generator iron, because of all the great reviews we kept hearing.
To summarise our experience of it in a couple of words : Game Changer.
No seriously, it’s about time that a steam iron could do what Tefal’s can. Considering all of the advancements we’ve had with mobile phones over the past few years.
It’s solved a lot of our problems and we’ll dive into that now
First Impressions and Appearance
When you look at it, you can tell straight away that this is a professional iron. From the safety clips, so it cant fall out of the base to the large 1.8l tank of water.
It’s nice and neat too, as the plug is drawn into the body of the base, so you’re not tripping over the plug and you can safety unplug it and let it recoil back into the base.
In terms of weight? It’s very heavy so it takes a bit to get used to it. And we mean that in a good way, you see with cheaper irons you really have to push down on your clothes and drag. This is a horrible technique which can often leave yo with ironing in bigger creases…. terrible.
However with the Tefal’s durilium autoclean soleplate, it allows you to press items. So you can focus on sliding it ove ryour clothe’s whilst the heavy sole plate naturally presses the creases out of your clothes.
Autoclean soleplate did i hear you say? Yanno those black marks that crappy iron’s get on them? yeah, well not any more. What them black marks usually are, is hair and fibre particles that burn onto your iron. They then, typically leave your iron, transferring to your clothes.
However tefal, yes tefal have used some fancy engineering which oxidises the fibres before they can turn into that black tarry mess – guaranteed to save your clothes at some point.
On top of that the soleplate, is a drip free sole plate. So again, it saves you from looking silly by avoiding a wet clothes situation. It’s also nice that the plate is scratch resistant, so you feel confident ironing around zips.
Tefal claim that you can halve your ironing time by going with them
Now I wouldn’t go that far, but can you iron a lot faster with this? Yes you can. As mentioned earlier you get a large water tank (1.8l)- about the size of a milk bottle. So as you can imagine, you can set up your ironing station and get to work on very large piles of clothes and make short work of them.
And consider this, the temperature heats up extremely fast and adapts to the clothes you’re ironing. Pretty neat huh?
If you’re naturally cautious about technology around your delicate items (silk, cashmere etc) then Tefal have included a manual steam and temperature setting. This allows you to optimise your ironing at any point.
For example if you have clothes that are really thin, you can easily slid down the glider and the temperature/steam pressure will adjust -fast
Likewise, if you have a thick coat, that may need that extra “umff” you can slide the glider back up and have powerful steam iron out your stubborn creases.
What About The Autoclean Function On Tefal GV8461 Pro Express Autoclean Steam Generator?
The autoclean function is great, it’s what gives this iron years of use. I’m sure you’ll agree when we say the biggest problem with Irons in the uk is hard water.
Hard water is in abundance in most areas of the Uk, causing limescale build up to happen fast. Now limescale will ruin your Tefal GV8461 pro express autoclean steam generator, by blocking all of the internal piping.
But this is where this irons magic comes from
Containing a unique anti-scale collector, you can pull all of the limescale deposit out of your iron before it causes damage, It looks like this :
How cool is that?
This invention is so effective and unique to Tefal that they decided to patent it, to prevent their competitors from using it in their products.
Tefal GV8461 Pro Express Autoclean Steam Generator Optional Extras
What is it you ask?
This is a handheld garment steamer that is useful for last minute “touch up jobs”. Or for when you’r on the move (like going on holiday) and you need something that can help spruce up your clothes.
These little devises are becoming more popular with homes, as they’ve got many uses. For example you can use it to iron your curtains, knock wrinkles out of your clothes, fight stains and even clean your house plants with.
Is it a replacement for a steam iron? by god no, it could never do the job that Tefal GV8461 Pro Express Autoclean Steam Generator can do so perfectly. Although we don’t own one (we do have a handheld steam cleaner). We’d suggest getting one if you’re forever fighting stains or frequently travel.
It’s an incredibly useful iron that will give you as many as 3 hours of ironing (god knows why you’d want to do that). The reason you’d want to buy this is because it will cut your ironing down, especially if you’ve never used a steam generator iron before.
It has many useful features, from the smart sole plate that is hard to scratch, to setting the right temperature for you (automatically), the auto clean function that allows you to rid yourself of limescale build up and of course the slider so you can reduce the steam or push it to extreme heights of 6 bars of pressure.
