“How easy is it to use one of these machines?” and “How much does the syrup cost?”.
Well, it’s easier than putting your shoes on in the morning to operate a slush puppy machine. The syrups will tell you how much to dilute it by (it tends to be 1:1 water: syrup), then with your machine you have 2 settings.
Setting 1 is to make your slush puppy machine to serve cold drinks and setting 2 is to make your slush puppy machine produce slush – simple right?
There’s also a temperature gauge, it’s best to put it on the coldest temperature in the beginning (as it takes 90 minutes to turn the liquid to slush) so this speeds things up. However, once you’ve got your slush. You’re gonna want to adjust your machine to a slightly warmer temperature, otherwise your drink will become too frozen.
And the syrups themselves are incredibly cheap, for example everyone’s favourite “blue raspberry”, costs just under £10 for 1l and that will give you approximately 60 drinks. Not bad hey?
Are There Different Types of Slush Puppy Machines?
Yes and it’s important you read this and understand. The slush puppy machines that you see in shops cost north of £1000 and use an electric freezer to create the slush by freezing liquid. They are also capable of being cold enough to create your frozen alcoholic drinks (which freeze at a colder temperature than normal beverages).
You also have ice crushers (these are your typical snow cone machines) they won’t make the likes of frozen margaritas but you can add the broken up ice to a margarita mix and have a slightly liquid/ice margarita. They’re also perfect for creating child’s drinks and are your most economical choice of slush puppy machine.
Lastly you have ice and salt machines. This uses the power of ice and salt as this mixture makes ice and water a lot colder. Through this mixture your drinks will then freeze on the outer casing, now colder thanks to the ice and salt mix. Some of these machines will claim they can make frozen alcoholic drinks but are mostly exaggerated marketing ploys.
Which Slush Puppy Machine Should You Get?
The nations favourite, but not a typical slush puppy machine. As you can see this machine uses a different process to normal slush machines. It produces flavourless ice first and then you add your flavouring after.
Now this is great for those that have a creative flair and kids love the whole design process. Give them a cone and a choice of up to 6 flavours and watch their faces beam with delight.
This slush puppy machine is useful for making ice to be used in cocktails or just to be added to drinks. Due to the fact that it’s a flavourless ice, you can make a lot more drinks than the list we mentioned earlier.
The only downside is, it does require a lot of products to make it work. You would need to buy these product extra:
- Ice Cubs
- Snow Cones
When you compare that to what some of the other machines offer (we will discuss them below), they only need syrup and will produce the ice with the addition of water.
You should get this machine if you have children who would enjoy designing their own snow cones .
Using the power of salt and ice, this machine will help you create a perfectly mixed slush puppy. The set up is incredibly easy, using 6 tablespoons of sea salt and a handful of ice. You open up the middle of the machine and add your ice and dump your salt (try not to get the salt down the sides of your machine though).
The salt then reacts with the ice causing the ice to become colder. You then add your favourite flavour and mix it with the right level of water (the packaging tells you how to dilute the syrup).
You then turn on the slush machine and it begins to spin around like the ones you see in the cinema. Now it will take up to an hour to freeze your liquid and you should check on your salt and ice frequently.
Some users report that they can’t get this to work and the instructions are unclear to follow. But it’s incredibly easy. Just add 6 tablespoons of salt, some ice and a bit of water into the centre. And half way through maybe add a bit more ice and salt to keep your machine cold. You will have a fully infused slush puppy in no time.
This machine won’t however, help you make frozen alcoholic drinks. You can, use it to make your slush mixture then add a shot of vodka over the top. This allows you to create a very basic alcoholic slush puppy.
This slush machine is for those who are serious about having the best piece of kit on the market, that want to make a statement and who want to make the perfect frozen alcoholic cocktails.
You’re given 15l of slush making power -that’s enough to make over 100 drinks.
With this you’re given 4 cold settings, the first setting allows you to make cold beverages, the second helps you to preserve your slush mixture, the third helps you create your slush mix and the fourth gives you the ability to freeze alcoholic drinks.
You have a lot more choices with this slush puppy machine, from flavours you can use, to the likes of alcoholic mixtures you can chose from.
This machine is best for someone who would use it regularly, for commercial use or who really just wants the best slush puppy machine no matter the cost.
It’s estimated that for retail use, these machines pull in an additional £3-£20k per year; now that’s not something to be sniffed at.
